The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
